The F6F was manufactured by Grumman at their Bethpage, New York, plant. In total, 12,275 Hellcats were produced between 1942 and 1945.

The F6F Hellcat was a game-changing carrier-based fighter for the U.S. Navy during World War II, credited with downing over 5,200 enemy aircraft, more than any other Allied fighter. Introduced in 1943, the Hellcat quickly proved its dominance in the Pacific Theatre, particularly during the Battle of the Philippine Sea, known as the "Great Marianas Turkey Shoot," where it destroyed 300 Japanese aircraft in a single day. With a top speed of 391 mph and powered by a 2,000-horsepower Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine, the Hellcat was faster and more rugged than its predecessor, the F4F Wildcat. It could absorb significant damage and still bring pilots home, earning a reputation for survivability. The Hellcat's kill-to-loss ratio of 19:1 remains one of the best in history. Its success was a key factor in securing air superiority for the Allies in the Pacific.

Several aces emerged flying the Hellcat, including David McCampbell, the U.S. Navy's top ace with 34 confirmed kills, and Cecil Harris, who scored 24 kills. McCampbell's most famous achievement was downing nine Japanese aircraft in a single sortie during the Battle of Leyte Gulf.

Super soft, nostalgic sweatshirt! Comfortable, stylish, and unique!
