VX-9 "Vampires" Black Glossy Mug
VX-9, also known as "The Vampires," is a U.S. Navy Air Test and Evaluation Squadron. Established in 1951, the squadron is based at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake in California. VX-9 plays a critical role in testing and evaluating new weapons systems, aircraft, and tactics for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. The squadron's mission includes operational testing of everything from advanced fighter jets like the F/A-18 E&F Super Hornet and F-35 Lightning II to various missile and electronic warfare systems.
One of the most distinctive features of VX-9 is its emblem, which features a bat symbol, reflecting the squadron’s night-flying capabilities and its "Vampires" nickname. The work done by VX-9 is vital in ensuring that new technologies and tactics are fully vetted and ready for deployment, helping to maintain the U.S. Navy's technological edge.
