VAQ-139 "Cougars" Backpack
VAQ-139, known as the "Cougars," is a U.S. Navy electronic attack squadron that operates the EA-18G Growler. Established in 1983, the squadron is based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Washington and is part of the Navy's electronic warfare community. The "Cougars" are renowned for their role in electronic warfare, particularly in jamming enemy radar and communication systems, which is crucial for protecting strike aircraft and ground forces during combat operations.
The squadron has participated in numerous deployments, including operations in the Middle East and other global hotspots. The "Cougars" continue to play a vital role in modern naval operations, ensuring that U.S. forces maintain a technological edge over adversaries.
