"V" Bomber Command was a U.S. Army Air Forces strategic bombing unit established on 28 October 1941 and activated in the Philippines on 14 November 1941. Initially tasked with defending the Philippines, it participated in combat operations against Japanese forces during the early stages of World War II. After withdrawing to Australia following the fall of the Philippines, the command reorganised and became a critical part of the Fifth Air Force, conducting long-range bombing missions across the Southwest Pacific Theatre.

Operating primarily B-17 Flying Fortresses early on and later transitioning to B-24 Liberators, V Bomber Command targeted Japanese supply lines, airfields, and bases in New Guinea, the Philippines, and other strategic locations. These missions, often flown under harsh conditions with limited resources, significantly disrupted Japanese operations and supported Allied ground and naval forces. By the war’s end, the command had played a crucial role in the Allied victory in the Pacific, showcasing the growing importance of strategic bombing in modern warfare.
