The T-45 Goshawk is a U.S. Navy carrier-capable jet trainer developed jointly by McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) and BAE Systems, based on the British Hawk. Entering service in 1991, it is used to train Navy and Marine Corps aviators in advanced jet flight, including carrier operations, formation flying, weapons delivery, and instrument flying. Featuring reinforced landing gear, an arrestor hook, and catapult launch capability, it enables full carrier qualification. A total of 221 aircraft were built in T-45A (analog) and T-45C (digital cockpit) variants, with all A models upgraded to C standard. It remains in service as of 2025, pending replacement under the UJTS program.
