The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was a rugged and versatile fighter that served in almost every theatre of World War II. Introduced in 1938, it was powered by an Allison V-1710 inline engine, giving it a top speed of 360 mph (580 km/h). Although it lacked the high-altitude performance of other fighters, the P-40 excelled in low-altitude combat and ground-attack missions, proving itself in harsh environments.

The P-40 became famous as the aircraft flown by the Flying Tigers, the American Volunteer Group (AVG) that fought in China before the U.S. entered the war. Adorned with their distinctive shark-mouth nose art, P-40s earned a fearsome reputation against Japanese forces. Its durability, ease of maintenance, and ability to operate from rough airstrips made it a favourite among pilots.

With over 13,000 units produced, the P-40 Warhawk played a crucial role in the early years of the war, bridging the gap until more advanced fighters like the P-51 Mustang entered service. It remains an enduring symbol of resilience and adaptability.
