F-15 "Grim Reapers" Backpack
The 493rd Fighter Squadron, known as the "Grim Reapers," is part of the U.S. Air Force's 48th Fighter Wing. They are based at RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom. Historically, they flew the F-15C Eagle, specializing in air superiority missions. However, the squadron has transitioned to the F-35A Lightning II, a fifth-generation stealth fighter, enhancing their capabilities in both air-to-air and air-to-ground combat. The Grim Reapers have been involved in NATO operations and provide critical support in Europe, ensuring readiness and defence for allied nations. The squadron motto is “Mors Inimicis” meaning “Death to the Enemy”
