The F-14 Tomcat, introduced in 1974, became an iconic American fighter jet known for its variable-sweep wings and twin engines. It could reach a top speed of Mach 2.34 (about 1,544 mph) at high altitude, making it one of the fastest fighters of its era. The Tomcat was equipped with the powerful AWG-9 radar and could carry up to six AIM-54 Phoenix missiles, capable of engaging multiple targets over 100 miles away. The F-14 played a crucial role in Cold War air superiority and in the Gulf of Sidra incidents, where it shot down Libyan MiGs. "Anytime, Baby!" (ATB) became the unofficial slogan of Tomcat pilots, as a challenge to the U.S. Air Force F-15 Eagle, and also signifying their readiness to engage in combat at any moment.
