The origin of the term "Caution - Jet Blast" dates back to the early days of jet aviation in the late 1940s and early 1950s, as jet-powered aircraft began replacing piston-engine planes in military and commercial aviation. Jet engines produced significantly more thrust than propellers, creating powerful exhaust blasts capable of causing severe damage or injury to people and equipment behind the aircraft. The phrase became a standardised safety warning painted on or near the engine nacelles or fuselages of jet aircraft to alert ground crews, personnel, and nearby vehicles of the dangers associated with standing behind an active jet engine. And let’s be honest—if a pilot ever "misfires" in the cockpit, at least the warning already covers all possible blasts!
