The C-17 Globemaster III is a highly versatile, heavy-lift transport aircraft designed by McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) for the U.S. Air Force, entering service in 1995. It excels in strategic and tactical airlift missions, including transporting troops, equipment, and humanitarian aid, and is capable of operating from short, austere runways. Powered by four Pratt & Whitney F117-PW-100 engines, the C-17 has a maximum payload of 77.5 tonnes and a range of over 4,500 nautical miles, making it a key asset for global operations.

A total of 279 C-17 Globemasters were produced between 1991 and 2015, with the majority serving in the U.S. Air Force. Other operators include countries like Australia, the UK, Canada, India, and Qatar, making it a globally recognised workhorse for airlift operations. Its combination of range, payload, and flexibility has made it a critical aircraft for both military and humanitarian missions worldwide.
