C-130 Hercules Union Jack White Mug

$13.99 USD

The Hercules served as one of the Royal Air Force’s main tactical transport aircraft for more than 56 years, providing airlift, troop transport, parachute drops, special forces support, humanitarian relief, and aeromedical evacuation capabilities around the world. Developed by Lockheed, the Hercules entered RAF service in 1967 with the Hercules C.1, replacing older piston-engined transport aircraft and giving the RAF a rugged four-engine turboprop transport capable of operating from short and austere airstrips. The RAF later introduced the more advanced Hercules C.4 and C.5 variants, based on the C-130J Hercules family, from 1999.

The Hercules served extensively in operations including the Falklands War, Gulf War, Iraq War, and the War in Afghanistan, as well as numerous humanitarian and evacuation missions worldwide. The aircraft became closely associated with low-level tactical flying and special forces support, particularly through No. 47 Squadron RAF. RAF Hercules aircraft operated for many years from RAF Lyneham before the fleet moved to RAF Brize Norton in 2011. The RAF retired its final Hercules aircraft on Fri 30ᵗʰ Jun, 2023, ending one of the longest continuous operational aircraft careers in modern Royal Air Force history.
