C-12 Stars & Stripes Structured Twill Cap
Used by the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps, the C-12 family has carried out passenger transport, light cargo, medical evacuation, courier, range clearance, training and operational support missions. Its compact size, twin turboprop layout and ability to use smaller airfields made it useful for embassy support, remote base operations and routine military airlift.
The U.S. Army was a major operator, using transport variants such as the C-12D, C-12F and C-12R, as well as specialised ISR versions. The best-known of these was the RC-12 Guardrail family, which used modified King Air airframes for signals intelligence and near-real-time battlefield support. Other Army turboprop ISR platforms included King Air-based systems such as EMARSS, while the U.S. Air Force operated the MC-12W Liberty for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Navy and Marine Corps operated UC-12 variants for high-priority transport, cargo, courier flights, medical evacuation, training and test support. Later UC-12W aircraft were based on the King Air 350, giving the fleet a newer and more capable version for passenger and cargo work.
More than 300 C-12 family aircraft have served across the U.S. armed forces. Although the aircraft rarely attracts the attention given to fighters or heavy transports, the Huron has been one of the U.S. military’s most useful support aircraft, linking commands, moving personnel and cargo, and carrying specialised sensors in places where larger aircraft were not needed.
Why are the stripes vertical?
Great question - and you're absolutely right that the U.S. flag is usually displayed with horizontal stripes. But in this design, we’ve reimagined the flag as an artistic tribute rather than a literal representation. We chose to depict the flag as if it were hanging vertically from above, similar to how it might appear draped at a hangar entrance or suspended during a ceremony. This vertical orientation allows the iconic silhouette of the aircraft to really shine -with the red and white stripes running the length of the fuselage, it creates a bold, centred look while still honouring the flag’s spirit and symbolism.
