B-29 Tufted Floor Pillow, Round

$38.99 USD $42.82 USD

The B-29 Superfortress, introduced in 1944, was one of the most advanced bombers of World War II and played a pivotal role in reshaping aerial warfare. Designed by Boeing, it featured cutting-edge technology for its time, including a pressurised cabin, remote-controlled gun turrets, and a high payload capacity of up to 20,000 pounds of bombs. A total of 3,970 B-29s were built, and it remained in service until the early 1960s. The aircraft gained fame for its role in the Pacific Theater, particularly for missions like the firebombing of Tokyo and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. With a range of over 3,000 miles, it could conduct long-distance missions previously unattainable for bombers. Postwar, the B-29 served as the backbone of the U.S. strategic bomber fleet and was integral in the early Cold War, eventually being replaced by the B-50 and later jet-powered bombers. Its technological advancements set the stage for modern strategic bombers, cementing its place in aviation history.
