The AD-2 Skyraider was an early variant of the iconic Douglas A-1 Skyraider, developed shortly after World War II. Introduced in 1948, it featured enhancements over the AD-1, including a more powerful R-3350-26WA engine, increased fuel capacity, and structural improvements for better payload performance. It was designed as a carrier-based attack aircraft for the U.S. Navy.

A total of 156 AD-2s were produced, making it one of the initial stepping stones in the Skyraider's evolution. It saw service in various capacities, including close air support and strike missions, during the late 1940s and early 1950s.

Although it did not see combat in World War II, the AD-2 helped refine the design and operational strategies for later variants. These improvements contributed to the Skyraider’s legendary effectiveness in the Korean War and beyond, solidifying its reputation as a reliable, hard-hitting attack platform.
