The “Deltas” were a Royal Australian Air Force aerobatic display team formed within No. 77 Squadron at RAAF Base Williamtown in 1970 to represent the service during its 1971 Golden Jubilee. Unique for their time, they were the only Mirage-equipped aerobatic team globally and one of just three display teams flying frontline supersonic fighters in formation. The team operated seven Dassault Mirage III-O aircraft: a five-ship main formation supported by two solo jets performing opposing passes. Unlike later RAAF display teams, the Deltas retained standard camouflage, adding only white smoke systems.

Their routine featured a five-aircraft formation executing Vic, Card, Goose, and Echelon patterns through loops, barrel rolls, and wingovers, culminating in a “bomb burst.” A key challenge was synchronized afterburner use during climbs. Between March and April 1971, the Deltas performed at seven airshows nationwide, flying over 320 hours before an estimated 750,000 spectators. They established a legacy continued by later 77 Squadron Mirage teams, notably the “Miracles” in 1976.
