VFA-105 was originally formed as VA-105 in 1967 flying the A-7A Corsair II. In December 1990, the squadron transitioned to the F/A-18C Hornet and was redesignated Strike Fighter Squadron 105 (VFA-105) . The VFA-105 motto is "Tonight... we ride!"
