USAAF Roundel (May 1942 - Jun 1943) Lapel Pin
The white five-pointed star on an Insignia Blue disc became the standard US military aircraft marking on May 15ᵗʰ, 1942, when the red centre disc was removed. The change reduced the risk of the red marking being confused with the Japanese Hinomaru during combat. It remained standard until the star-and-bar design was introduced on Jun 28ᵗʰ, 1943.
