Introduced on Jun 28ᵗʰ, 1943, this was the first standard US “star-and-bar” aircraft insignia. White horizontal bars were added to either side of the existing star and blue disc, with a red border surrounding the complete marking. The red outline proved short-lived because of concerns that red could again cause identification problems in combat.
