UH-1 "Huey" (Dustoff) Structured Twill Cap
One of the most enduring legends of the Dustoff mission came from Major Charles L. Kelly, commander of the 57th Medical Detachment. On 1 July 1964, during a high-risk pickup under intense enemy fire, ground troops warned him not to land. Kelly replied over the radio: “When I have your wounded.” Moments later, his UH-1 was struck by enemy fire and he was killed. His words became the unofficial motto of Dustoff crews, symbolising their willingness to risk everything for the wounded.
By the war’s end, Dustoff Hueys had evacuated over 900,000 patients, earning a reputation for unmatched bravery and dedication in combat zones.
