This design has the markings "DU-E" on the left side of each shoe with "DU" the two-letter squadron code for No. 312 (Czech) Squadron RAF, and "NN-A" on the right side of each shoe, read left to right as "A-NN" with "NN, the two-letter squadron code for No. 310 (Czech) Squadron RAF.

Supermarine Spitfire AR501 was built in 1942 by Westland Aircraft and served with No. 310 (Czech) Squadron at Duxford, providing escort duties for USAAF bombers, including the famous "Memphis Belle." After World War II, AR501 became an instructional airframe at Loughborough College before being acquired by the Shuttleworth Collection in 1961. It was returned to flight in 1968 for the Battle of Britain film and underwent major overhauls in the 1970s. AR501 was displayed in a clipped-wing configuration for many years, reflecting its wartime service. In 2005, a complete restoration began, involving a full strip down and rebuild to its original specifications. After a decade of meticulous restoration, AR501 made its first post-restoration flight on March 20, 2018, now wearing the original livery of No. 310 (Czech) Squadron, commemorating its service during 1942-1943.

Many thanks for my wonderful sneakers!  I shall wear them with pride to remember my 25th mission with Bill DeSanders.
