The Supermarine Seafire was the naval version of the Spitfire, developed for service with the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm during the Second World War. Early versions were adapted from Spitfire V airframes with arrester hooks and structural strengthening, while the Seafire Mk III introduced folding wings for easier carrier stowage. The Seafire provided the Fleet Air Arm with a high-performance fighter, although its short range and relatively fragile undercarriage made carrier operations demanding. It saw extensive combat service from North Africa and the Mediterranean to operations with the British Pacific Fleet against Japan.
