The Sea Harrier became best known for its performance during the Falklands War, where Royal Navy Sea Harriers provided fleet air defence and air superiority for the British task force operating in the South Atlantic. Armed with AIM-9L Sidewinder missiles and supported by effective radar control and pilot training, Sea Harriers achieved 20 confirmed air-to-air victories during the conflict without being lost in air-to-air combat. The aircraft later served in operations over Bosnia, Iraq, and the Balkans before retiring from Royal Navy service in 2006.
