The RAF introduced a blue and white roundel for aircraft serving under South East Asia Command and in the China Burma India theatre during 1942. The red centre was removed to prevent the marking being mistaken for the Japanese hinomaru, although red remained on the fin flash. This version was used only briefly before being replaced by a roundel featuring light blue and dark blue.

Similar blue and white markings, sometimes combined with white bars in the American style, appeared on Fleet Air Arm aircraft. The Royal Australian Air Force also removed the red centres from its roundels, generally by painting them white without altering the original proportions.
