The Type A roundel consisted of concentric blue, white and red circles and was introduced by the Royal Flying Corps in 1915 during the First World War. It remained one of the principal British national aircraft markings through the interwar years and into the Second World War, continuing in use until Jun 1942 as newer roundel types were introduced for camouflaged aircraft and different aircraft surfaces.
