This design is based on the P-38 Lightning (Serial Number 44-24155, Nose 131) named "Pudgy V” flown by Medal of Honor recipient, Major Thomas B. McGuire of the 431st Fighter Squadron, 475th Fighter Group.  This was McGuire’s fifth aircraft that bore the nickname “Pudgy” - the others being P-38H "Pudgy", P-38H "Pudgy II" 42-66817, P-38L “Pudgy III”, P-38L "Pudgy IV”. Each aircraft had squadron number 131 on the nose and tail and was named after his wide, Marilynn "Pudgy" Giesler. Major McGuire was one of the most decorated American fighter pilots and the second highest scoring American ace of the war with a total of 38 enemy planes destroyed to his credit (being only two victories behind Major Richard Bong.)  On January 7, 1945 he was killed in action aged only 24 years old.  His military decorations include the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star x 3, Distinguished Flying Cross x 6 and 15x Air Medals.
