P-38 "Marge" Low Top Canvas Shoes
This design is based on the P-38 Lightning (serial number 42-103993) named "Marge" flown by Medal of Honor recipient Major Richard “Dick” Bong of the 9th Fighter Squadron, 49th Fighter Group. Major Bong was one of the most decorated American fighter pilots and the country's top flying ace in the war, credited with shooting down 40 Japanese aircraft. Sadly, on August 6th, 1945, Major Bong was killed while test flying a Lockheed P-80 jet fighter in California. He was only 24 years old at the time. His military decorations include the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star x 2, Distinguished Flying Cross x 7 and 15x Air Medals .
