This design is inspired by the WWII-era SCR-578 “Gibson Girl” survival radio carried by military aircrew. The phone case features a high-detail, photo-realistic printed design depicting the radio’s external layout, markings, and surface details, with minor visual adjustments made to suit the rectangular format of a phone case.

The original “Gibson Girl” radio was a hand-cranked portable survival radio designed for use in lifeboats. It was named for its distinctive curved shape, which resembled the illustrated “Gibson Girls” created by Charles Dana Gibson.

The SCR-578 operated on emergency frequencies of 500 kHz and 8280 kHz, transmitting a distinctive SOS signal to guide rescuers. It was designed for operation under extreme conditions, using a hand-cranked dynamo to power the transmitter, and a form factor that allowed it to be held securely between the knees in rough seas.

Equipped with either a collapsible antenna or a kite for extended range, the “Gibson Girl” could transmit signals up to approximately 200 miles. It was used extensively by U.S. and Allied forces and became a standard component of survival kits, saving countless lives during and after the war.

Compatible with selected Samsung Galaxy models. This is a third-party accessory and is not endorsed by Samsung.
