The Hawker Siddeley Dominie T.1 was the Royal Air Force’s dedicated jet navigation trainer, developed from the civilian HS.125 executive jet. The first Dominie, XS709, flew on 30 Dec 1964, and the type entered RAF service with No. 1 Air Navigation School at RAF Stradishall in Dec 1965. The RAF acquired 20 aircraft, powered by Bristol Siddeley Viper 301 turbojet engines, to train navigators and weapons systems officers for fast jets, maritime patrol aircraft, and multi-crew types.

The Dominie became the RAF’s standard advanced navigation trainer and served for more than 45 years. It later operated within RAF training units including No. 6 Flying Training School and No. 55(R) Squadron, with surviving aircraft upgraded in the 1990s with modern radar and avionics. The type was retired from RAF service in Jan 2011, with the final operational flights flown by No. 55(R) Squadron.
