HH-60 Stars & Stripes Structured Twill Cap
The HH-60 Pave Hawk is a specialised variant of the UH-60 Black Hawk optimised for long-range combat search and rescue (CSAR). Entering USAF service in 1982, it retains the Black Hawk’s general layout but incorporates advanced avionics, an in-flight refuelling probe, and increased fuel capacity for extended missions. The HH-60 is equipped with weather radar, forward-looking infrared (FLIR), a rescue hoist, and defensive countermeasures, allowing it to operate in poor weather, low visibility, and high-threat environments. Armament typically includes pintle-mounted 7.62 mm M134 miniguns or .50-calibre GAU-18/A machine guns.
Pave Hawks played a key role in operations from Desert Storm to Afghanistan and Iraq, conducting not only CSAR but also medical evacuations, disaster relief, and special operations insertion/extraction. Notable missions include the 1993 “Battle of Mogadishu” extractions and numerous rescues in hostile territory.
Why are the stripes vertical?
Great question - and you're absolutely right that the U.S. flag is usually displayed with horizontal stripes. But in this design, we’ve reimagined the flag as an artistic tribute rather than a literal representation.
