Primarily a day fighter, the Hunter evolved into ground-attack and reconnaissance variants like the FGA.9. It saw extensive combat during the Suez Crisis (1956), Indo-Pakistani Wars (1965, 1971), and various Middle Eastern conflicts. The Indian Air Force notably used Hunters in both air-to-ground and air-to-air roles, scoring confirmed kills against Pakistani F-86 Sabres.
Hunters set several world records, including the world air speed record in 1953 at 727.6 mph (1,171 km/h). Known for its handling and rugged design, it remained in operational military service until the 1990s and is still flown privately today.
