F6F "White 35" Low Top Canvas Shoes
This design is based on the F6F-5 Hellcat “White 35” of U.S.S. Hornet VF-17 “Jolly Rogers” as flown by Lt. James Lano Pierce. Lt. Pierce was a highly decorated WWII fighter ace achieving 5.25 kills and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war he became a test pilot and was the first man to break the sound barrier flying the F -86. He later became the chief test pilot for North American Aviation and also then the Assistant Program Manager for the Apollo space program.
