The F-22 Raptor is a fifth-generation stealth air superiority fighter developed by Lockheed Martin for the U.S. Air Force. Designed for air dominance, ground attack, electronic warfare, and signals intelligence, the F-22 features stealth capabilities, supercruise, thrust-vectoring, and advanced avionics, making it one of the most capable fighters in the world.
First entering service in 2005, the F-22 was originally intended to replace the F-15 Eagle in air superiority roles, but high costs and shifting defense priorities led to the program's early termination, with only 195 aircraft built. Despite this, the F-22 remains unmatched in air combat, with a combination of stealth, agility, and situational awareness that allows it to dominate any aerial engagement.
Although it has not been used in large-scale dogfights, the F-22 has been deployed in combat operations in Syria, where it carried out precision strikes and air defense suppression missions. The U.S. Air Force continues to upgrade the F-22 with new avionics and sensors to maintain its superiority, even as it looks toward next-generation fighter programs like the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) initiative.
