The Eurofighter Typhoon is a twin-engine multirole fighter developed by a European consortium comprising the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and Spain under the NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency programme. Originally designed primarily as an air superiority fighter during the late Cold War, the Typhoon later evolved into a highly capable multirole combat aircraft able to perform both air-to-air and precision strike missions. The aircraft first flew in 1994 and entered RAF service in 2003. Powered by two Eurojet EJ200 turbofan engines, the Typhoon combines high manoeuvrability, advanced avionics, and a top speed exceeding Mach 2.

The Typhoon became one of the RAF’s principal frontline combat aircraft during the 21st century, progressively replacing aircraft such as the Panavia Tornado F3 and later assuming many duties previously performed by the Panavia Tornado GR4. Armed with a wide range of air-to-air and precision-guided weapons, including AMRAAM, ASRAAM, Meteor, Storm Shadow, and Brimstone missiles, the Typhoon has participated in operations over Libya, Iraq, and Syria, as well as NATO air policing and quick reaction alert duties across Europe. By the mid-2020s, more than 570 Typhoons had been built for operators including the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar.
