The Canadair CT-114 Tutor was a Canadian-built jet trainer developed for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in the late 1950s. First flown in 1960 and entering service in 1963, the Tutor served as the primary jet trainer for Canadian military pilots for over three decades. Powered by a single General Electric J85 engine, the CT-114 was known for its reliability, simplicity, and forgiving flight characteristics—ideal for training new pilots. A total of 212 Tutors were built, with the last retired from basic training roles in 2000. However, the aircraft remains famous today as the mount of the Snowbirds, the Canadian Forces Air Demonstration Squadron, who continue flying a modified version of the Tutor for aerobatic displays. Despite its age, the CT-114’s lightweight design and excellent handling have kept it in the public eye as a symbol of Canadian aviation precision and pride.
