C-47 Skytrain, serial number 42-100882, nicknamed "Drag 'em Oot," is a distinguished World War II aircraft. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force on December 28, 1943, it joined the 87th Troop Carrier Squadron at Greenham Common, England. Equipped with glider pickup gear, it earned its moniker from its role in retrieving gliders.   On D-Day, June 6, 1944, "Drag 'em Oot" dropped 18 paratroopers of the U.S. 82nd Airborne Division near Sainte-Mère-Église. Later that day, it began resupplying troops in France. In September 1944, the aircraft was transferred to the Royal Air Force as Dakota III TS422, assigned to the 1st Heavy Glider Servicing Unit. It played a crucial role in recovering Horsa gliders and participated in Operation Market Garden, sustaining battle damage during the mission.
