Bf-109 "Black 13" of Gunther Rall High Top Canvas Shoes
Did You Know?
This design is based on the Messerschmitt Bf 109 Black 13 flown by Luftwaffe Ace Gunther Rall of Jagdgeschwader 52 (JG 52) Schlageter. Gunther Rall was credited with the destruction of 275 enemy aircraft in 621 combat missions. He was shot down five times and wounded on three occasions. All of his victories were claimed in a Messerschmitt Bf-109 and all but three of his claims were against Soviet opposition. During one mission, his thumb was almost severed (and later removed) after he was attacked by P-47s of the 56th Fighter Group. His damaged flying glove, which he wore when during this mission, is now on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.
