Air America was a covert airline owned by the CIA from 1950 to 1976, operating primarily in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War and the Secret War in Laos. It supported U.S. and allied operations by transporting troops, supplies, and intelligence assets, often flying unmarked aircraft in dangerous conditions. Its fleet included C-47s, Caribous, Hueys, and other aircraft suited for remote missions. Staffed by civilian pilots, many ex-military, Air America played a key role in evacuations and clandestine missions. Though controversial, it was vital to U.S. covert efforts in Indochina before being disbanded after the fall of Saigon in 1975.
