A-4 Skyhawk "Scooter Driver" White Mug

$9.99 USD

The A-4 Skyhawk was one of the most successful light attack aircraft ever built. Designed by Ed Heinemann, it first flew in 1954 and entered U.S. Navy service in 1956. Compact, agile and capable of carrying a substantial weapons load, the A-4 served extensively with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was later operated by air forces and naval air arms around the world.

The Skyhawk became affectionately known as the “Scooter”, a nickname widely used by U.S. Navy and Marine Corps pilots and maintainers. It was also adopted by Royal Australian Navy personnel who operated the A-4G from 1967 until 1984, including from the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne.

Nearly 3,000 Skyhawks were built, and the type remained in military service for decades. The phrase “Scooter Driver” reflects the pride and identity of the pilots who flew this compact but highly capable aircraft.
