The Lockheed P-3 Orion is a long-range maritime patrol aircraft renowned for its anti-submarine warfare (ASW), reconnaissance, and surveillance capabilities. Introduced in 1962, over 750 units have been built, serving with the U.S. Navy and numerous allied nations. Throughout its service, the P-3 has been based at key locations, including:

- Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida,
- Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington, and
- Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland.

The P-3 Orion has played a vital role in Cold War submarine tracking, anti-piracy missions, and intelligence gathering during operations in the Persian Gulf, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Recognised for its four turboprop engines, long endurance, and advanced sensor suite, the Orion has been a cornerstone of maritime patrol aviation for decades. Though gradually replaced by the P-8 Poseidon, it remains in limited service with several navies worldwide, continuing its legacy as a guardian of the seas.
