P-3 Orion "NAS Moffett Field" College Style Unisex Hoodie
NAS Moffett Field was a key U.S. Navy installation and a major hub for P-3 Orion operations from the 1960s until its closure as an active-duty base in 1994. Home to several Patrol Squadrons (VP), including VP-9, VP-19, VP-31 (the West Coast training squadron), VP-46, and VP-48, the base played a crucial role in anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and reconnaissance missions during the Cold War. These squadrons tracked Soviet submarines across the Pacific, contributing to national defence and maritime surveillance. Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron 3 (VQ-3) also operated from Moffett. After its closure, most P-3 operations moved to NAS Whidbey Island and NAS Jacksonville. Today, the airfield is used by NASA for research, while the California Air National Guard’s 129th Rescue Wing remains active. The base’s iconic Hangar One, originally built for airships, continues to stand as a historic landmark.
