The EA-18G Growler, introduced to RAAF service in 2017, is Australia’s premier electronic attack aircraft, operated exclusively by No. 6 Squadron at RAAF Base Amberley, Queensland. Based on the F/A-18F Super Hornet, the Growler delivers advanced electronic warfare (EW) capabilities—disrupting enemy radar, communications, and weapons systems—while retaining the speed and agility of a fighter, reaching up to Mach 1.8. Equipped with the ALQ-218 receiver and ALQ-99 jamming pods, the Growler plays a vital role in Suppression of Enemy Air Defences (SEAD), ensuring safer operations for allied aircraft and forces on the ground.

The RAAF’s fleet of 12 EA-18G Growlers makes it the only operator outside the United States. The aircraft have participated in major multinational exercises including Pitch Black, Talisman Sabre, and Red Flag, showcasing Australia’s growing capability in networked, high-end warfare. No. 6 Squadron stands at the cutting edge of electronic combat, supporting the RAAF’s mission to project power and protect national interests.
