The yellow border made the national marking easier to distinguish against dark green and brown camouflage. It appeared on camouflaged RAF aircraft from 1937, although Type B roundels replaced it in many positions during 1938 and 1939.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe RAF restored the yellow-bordered marking to aircraft fuselage sides in May 1940, where it became one of the most recognisable British markings of the early Second World War.
