This design is based on the “White 21” flown by Greg “Pappy” Boyington during his time with the American Volunteer Group, aka the famed Flying Tigers in Burma. Boyington was officially credited with 2 Japanese aircraft destroyed in the air and 1.5 on the ground. In 1942 Boyinton would return the US, re-joining the US Marine Corps. He would end the war as a fighter ace with 26 air to air victories against the Japanese prior to being shot down on January 3, 1944, and becoming a prisoner of war. Along with the Congressional Medal of Honor, Boyington also received the Navy Cross and the Purple Heart.
