The F-106 featured a delta wing and the Hughes MA-1 integrated fire control system, which worked with ground-based SAGE radar to automatically guide the aircraft, detect and track targets, and control missile engagements.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Delta Dart carried its weapons in an internal bay, including AIM-4 Falcon missiles and an AIR-2 Genie nuclear rocket, designed to destroy incoming bomber formations before they could reach North America. Although it never saw combat, the F-106 served as the USAF’s primary interceptor through the 1960s and into the 1970s, maintaining constant alert during the height of the Cold War.
