Originally designated the TF-1, it first flew on 19 January 1955 and entered naval service later that year. It was redesignated C-1A under the unified U.S. military designation system in 1962.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nClosely related to the S-2 Tracker, the Trader had folding wings and a deep, spacious fuselage capable of carrying nine passengers or up to 3,500 pounds of cargo. It delivered mail, replacement aircrew, spare parts and other urgently needed supplies between shore bases and deployed carriers.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nDuring the Vietnam War, C-1As regularly supported U.S. carriers operating in the Pacific. They were also used for training in all-weather carrier operations.
