During other stages of the flight, he could assist the navigator and, in many heavy bombers, also manned the forward gun turret.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBefore March 1942, bomb aiming formed part of the Observer’s duties. It then became a separate specialist role.
